LA CUMPARSITA (G.M. RODRIGUEZ)


About

The mother of all tangos. You know this one, even if you might not know the name of it.

And if you still think that this style of dance is an exclusively Argentinian domain, you will be surprised

to hear that this tune comes from Uruguay. The main theme was initially written by young student

Gerardo Matos Rodriguez from Montevideo in 1916 for a carnival parade.

That is why you often see it noted in a 2/4 measure.

Transposed into the only playable key for me. Still, I find that the first Gm sequence in part [ A ] lacks some bass. However, in all it works out quite nicely. The easier version (maintaining the chord position and playing the second melody segment one octave lower) includes only part [ A ].
