I learned this very long time ago as a standard 12 bar song (even though not in the standard blues chord progression) and in regular tuning. It was included in the wonderful instruction book "Die Folk-Blues-Gitarre" by Helmut Grahl. But after a while I found the bass during D major too weak, so I tried tuning down the E-string and it sounded much better to me. And over the years I somehow - unconsciously - added an additional bar to the intro and a 13th bar to the verse (both marked with the red dotted line). You can just as well leave them out, works the same way.
Please note that the A chord is either played open, barred on the II. fret or in an F-shape on V. fret (open A-string).
