CHARIOTS OF FIRE (VANGELIS)

About

Title theme of the movie of the same name and another one of those songs that you cannot stop humming. Even if you find it extremely boring. In this case, there is only one remedy to get rid of the obsession: Work it out as a ukulele tab. By the time you are through, you are sick of it. Great example of hook-building and acoustic hypnosis by repetition. For "Chariots of Fire" Vangelis won the Oscar for best original score. Just like his score for „Blade Runner“ some years later.

Trivia

The movie setting around the 1924 Olympic Games somehow linked the tune to this sports mega-event: It was used in Sarajevo 1984 (official theme), Atlanta1996 (prior to 100m dash) and London 2012 (opening ceremony and medal ceremony theme). Was also played when Steve Jobs introduced the first Apple Macintosh in 1984 (Wikipedia wisdom)

Original Key

D (at least in the score I used to tab this)

Tuning

gCEA

Tab Notes

In the tab, I skipped the two-note-intro. Noted at double speed (quarter notes are half notes indeed, etc.) to save some paper. In the second bar of the [ B ] part, I am not sure about the G7, but did not look too long for alternatives, since that is only played for two beats and doesn't sound completely wrong. Focus is on the melody as always. Just let ring, this doesn’t need much stuff around.
